Floret a mense Aprili in Julium.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with crested tips within the blossom; blossoms globular,
umbelled, and purple; the cup is scaly, and of a whitish colour; leaves
by fours.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM shrubby, upright, a foot and a half high, branching; branches
thread-shaped and upright.
LEAVES by fours, smooth, blunt, furrowed beneath, and slightly sawed at
the edges.
FLOWERS terminate the branches in umbels of three to six in each umbel,
nodding; the footstalks are purple, having three floral leaves.
EMPALEMENT four-leaved; leaflets scaly, egg-shaped, keeled, and of a
whitish colour.
BLOSSOM globular, and purple; the segments are equal and spreading.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, fixed to the receptacle; tips crested,
and within the blossom.
POINTAL. Seed-bud turban-shaped. Shaft thread-shaped, and within the
blossom. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from the month of April till July.

DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS fruticosus, bipedalis, ramis numerosis, verticillatis patulis.
FOLIA ternata, erecta, parva, carnosa, lucida, subtus sulcata, petiolis
ramulos adpressis.
FLORES solitarii, terminales, in ramulos per-numerosos, laterales,
ternatos, et paulo declinatos; pedunculi bracteis tribus instructi.
CALYX tetraphyllus, foliolis ovatis.
COROLLA parva, tetragona, luteo-albida, laciniis patentibus rotundatis.
STAMINA octo, capillaria, prælonga, extra flores plus minusve pendula;
antheræ muticæ.
PISTILLUM. Germen tiaræforme, lanuginosum; stylus filiformis.
Habitat ad Caput Bonæ Spei.
Floret a mense Junio ad Septembrem.
