HEATH, with beardless tips, within the blossom: leaves bristle-shaped, long, and crowded: flowers grow in whorls, of a yellow colour: stem upright. DESCRIPTION. STEM two feet high, upright, with simple ascending branches. LEAVES in sixes, sevens, or eights, erect, crowded, and bristle-shaped: footstalks very long. FLOWERS grow in crowded whorls near the ends of the branches: footstalks short, and furnished with three floral leaves. EMPALEMENT four-leaved: leaflets lance-shaped, and pressed to the cup. BLOSSOM cylindrical, an inch long, yellow, and slightly ribbed: segments of the border nearly round, equal, and spreading. CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads: tips beardless, and within the blossom. POINTAL. Seed-bud turban-shaped, villose, and furnished with honey-cups at the base. Shaft thread-shaped, and just within the blossom. Summit four-cornered. Native of the Cape of Good Hope. LEAVES by threes, linear, blunt, and rolled back at the edges; the older ones spreading, the younger ones ascending: the edges rough with long hairs.
