(See, for farther particulars, Hook's _Church Dictionary_, s. v.)_ A PRIEST. _We do not like to insert this inquiry without being able to give our readers a specific reference to some paper containing the advertisement; will he enable us to do so?_ A. (Glasgow). _This Correspondent appears to have fallen into an error; on reference he will find ether not washed is recommended _(Vol. vi., p. 277.)_; 2ndly, if he varnishes his pictures with amber varnish _(Vol. vii., p. 562.)_ previous to the application of the black varnish, which should be _black lacquer_ and not _Brunswick black_, then he will succeed. Courtesy demands a reply; but we must beg a more careful reading of our recommendations, which will save him much disappointment._
