July, 1857; app. resident at Rajpootana, and provisional member of the Council of India, Aug. 1857; promoted to be lieut.-gen., 1858; received, 14 April, 1859, the thanks of parliament for his eminent skill, courage, and perseverance, in subduing the late insurrection in India (_Oriental and United Service Clubs_). 23.
