UNIFORM.--Scarlet (from 1688, the colour of facings being unknown, but probably Blue); Scarlet and Blue (from 1742). REGIMENTAL AND OTHER BADGES.--"The Prince of Wales's Plume," with "_Ich Dien_." "The Rising Sun." "The Red Dragon." (The two last are ancient badges of the Princes of Wales.) Also "The White Horse" (of Hanover), with the Motto, "_Nec aspera terrent_." Also "The Sphinx" for "Egypt" (1801). NICKNAMES.--"The Nanny Goats" and "The Royal Goats" (it has a goat as a regimental pet, which is led with garlanded horns and a shield at the head of the drums--how the custom arose is unknown). NOTES.--Raised in Wales. Its officers wear the "flash," a relic of the old queue. A leek is also worn in the cap on St. David's Day. Its title in 1714 was bestowed in honour of the Prince of Wales.
