Havre was bombarded by the English and Dutch fleets from 26 to 28 July, 1694. The bombardment of this and other places, in retaliation for that of Genoa, Charleroy, and Liège by the French, is compared to the destruction of Perillus, who perished in his own brazen bull, which he had invented for the burning of the victims of Phalaris, tyrant of Agrigentum. 394.
