 _Acute._ pointed, scarcely tapering.
 _Alar._ (cells) at basal angles.
 _Annulus._ an elastic ring round mouth of caps.
 _Apicu-lus (-late.)_ a very short point.
 _Apophysis._ an excrescence; a swelling at base of capsule.
 _Arcuate._ arched or curved.
 _Areolæ._ the leaf cells.
 _Arista._ a short bristly point.
 _Auricles_ (of leaf). short lobes on each side of base.
