The resistance was not very serious, but on one or two occasions the Burmese fought well. The total casualties amounted to about 130 killed and wounded, the Dorsets and 76th Punjabis being the principal sufferers. The casualties in action barely reached 3 per cent., those by disease exceeded 56 per cent., of the troops present! PEGU. This distinction was granted to the following regiments, in recognition of their services during the campaign in Burmah in the years 1852-53: Royal Irish. South Staffords.
