Everything feminine is incompatible with the sun, yet nowhere, as far as I can see, does any deity corresponding to _Mater_ appear among the Persians or Indians. Altogether _Mithra_ is a knotty point in the system of Zoroaster, into which it fits like the fist into the eye.
