standard with his motto in gold letters,--"_Fear none But God._"[72] The Duke of Monmouth was taken prisoner soon afterwards, and was beheaded on the 15th of July on Tower-Hill, London. Thus the rebellion was suppressed; and the sum of 397_l._ was paid to the officers and soldiers of the ROYAL Regiment of foot who were wounded in this service, as is set forth in the following warrant, copied from the public accounts of that period:-- "JAMES R.
