Then we withdrew a little and speaking of this and that he said to me: “Do you see upon this roof what I see?” I replied: “Why, I see the roof-covering which the king lately gave orders to place there.” But he asked: “Don’t you see anything else?” And I said: “Nothing else.” For I suspected that he was making a joke.
