Sophronia, born 8 May, 1826. Mrs. Poteet, soon after the death of her husband, returned to her native State, and, 23 Feb., 1840, married JOHN W. GARLAND, of Yancey County, born in Tennessee, 5 Sept., 1807. He was County Clerk of Yancey County for 12 years, and also represented that county in the Legislature in 1854-'55 and in 1865-'66, and was the Union Delegate in the State Convention of 1861. VIII.
