HABITAT: Barbuda, near Antigua, "where it was found dead at the foot of a tree." (_Drury_). America (_Fabr._). {83}Head black, broad, and very rough above, with two strong, thick, black triangular mandibles, nearly as long as the thorax; having the inner margin very hairy, and armed with teeth; sharp pointed at the tips, with their points bending towards each other. Antennæ about half the length of the insect; close underneath which on each side is a strong spine. Thorax black, as broad as the elytra; very rough on the sides, but shining in the middle, the surface being very uneven; the anterior angle projecting beyond the edge. Scutellum semi-oval. Elytra dark red brown, shining, and margined deeply on the edges, but faintly along the suture; having a very short and small spine at the extremities, and extending a little beyond the anus.
