Episcopal Church in Scotland -- Liturgy -- Texts
| _If there be two or more celebrations of the Holy Communion_
| _in any church on Easter-day, the following Epistle and Gospel_
| _may be used at one of them_.
|
| THE EPISTLE. Hebr. xiii. 20.
|
| Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord
| Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the
| everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do
| his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight,
| through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. _Amen_.
|
| THE GOSPEL. St Mark xvi. 1.
|
| When the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother
| of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come
| and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the
| week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And
| they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from
| the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the
| stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into
| the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side,
| clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And
| he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth,
| which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place
| where they laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter
| that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as
| he said unto you. And they went out quickly, and fled from the
| sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they
| any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
|
| _An Additional Collect for Eastertide_.
|
| O God, who for our redemption didst give thine only begotten
| Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross, and by his
| glorious resurrection hast delivered us from the power of the
| enemy; Grant us so to die daily unto sin, that we may evermore
| live with him who died and rose again for us; through the same
| Jesus Christ our Lord. _Amen_.
MONDAY IN EASTER WEEK
THE COLLECT.
Almighty God, who through thy only-begotten Son Jesus Christ hast
overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life:
We humbly beseech thee, that as by thy special grace preventing us
thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by thy continual
help we may bring the same to good effect; through Jesus Christ
our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost,
ever one God, world without end. _Amen_.
FOR THE EPISTLE. Acts x. 34.
