This is one of that class of books for boys full of hair-breadth escapes and improbable incidents. It is the first of _The Pleasant Cove Series_, which means five more just like this. The fact that the characters have been introduced in a former "series," and are to be carried forward through the coming five volumes, renders the story a little obscure at times. This, however, will not prevent boys who enjoy tales of perilous sea voyages and marvellous encounters from finding this volume interesting and amusing. As it is now, it is very objectionable, and loses all its value. Here is one quotation, taken at random.
