"Man, I am not!" 59 Then after about an hour had passed, another insisted, saying, "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean." 60 But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times." 62 And he went out and wept bitterly. 63 Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him. 64 They blindfolded him and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?" 65 And they spoke many other things against him, blaspheming. 66 As soon as it was day, the council of the elders of the people came together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council chamber, saying, 67 "If you are the Christ, tell us." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe. 68 And if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God." 70 They all said, "Are you the Son of God, then?" He said to them, "You said what I am." 71 And they said, "What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips." 23 1 Then the whole body of them arose and led him to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king." 3 So Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "It is as you say." 4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no crime in this man." 5 But they were urgent, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place." 6 When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had desired to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by him. 9 Then he questioned him with many words, but he gave him no answer. 10 The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11 And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, dressing him in a gorgeous robe, he sent him back to Pilate. 12 That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for before this they had been at enmity with each other. 13 Pilate then called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, 14 and said to them, "You have brought this man to me as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. And behold, having examined him in your presence, I have found no guilt in this man concerning those charges which you make against him; 15 neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us.
