=The English Library= being especially prepared for the convenience of
travellers and Continental readers, is put forth in small, portable,
shapely, and convenient volumes, issued in distinctive covers at the
uniform price of 1 Mark 60 Pfennig, or 2 Francs per volume. They are
clearly and carefully printed on the best paper, and flexibly bound.
=The English Library= has been fortunate in securing the cooperation of

=The English Library= sets two aims especially before itself:--
FIRST--To issue its volumes _simultaneously_ with the appearance of the
same works in England and America; and
SECOND--To compress these works (wherever it is possible without
sacrifice of the legibility of the type) into _One Volume_.
English and American travellers and English-speaking residents on the
Continent will appreciate the opportunity thus afforded to obtain in a
convenient form, and at a moderate price, new books as rapidly as they
are issued at home, without being forced to wait until they have ceased
to be novelties.
