Davis, the first authority in the United States in the field of physical geography. It retains the characteristic features of the author's earlier work, "Physical Geography," but is much less difficult and is admirably adapted for use with younger pupils. The plan of this volume, like that of its predecessor, is to give the problems of physical geography a rational treatment. The object of this method is not simply to explain physiographic facts, but to increase the appreciation of the facts themselves by associating them with their causes and their consequences. This relation is not presented merely as an afterthought in a detached chapter at the end of the book; it accompanies the presentation of the facts themselves. The chapter on the Atmosphere has been considerably expanded, and an entirely new chapter has been added on the Distribution of Plants, Animals, and Man, considered from a physiographic standpoint. The questions at the end of each chapter, prepared by an experienced high-school teacher, will be found most useful in class-room work with this book.
