24 "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out his angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. 28 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 32 "But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Take heed, watch; for you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. 35 Watch therefore-for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning-36 lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!" LK 21:5-36 5 And as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and offerings, he said, 6 "As for these things which you see, the days will come when there shall not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down." 7 So they asked him, "Teacher, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when they are about to take place?" 8 And he said: "Take heed that you not are deceived. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not go after them. 9 And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified; for these things must first take place, but the end will not come immediately." 10 Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. And you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. 13 This will turn into an opportunity for you to bear testimony. 14 Therefore settle it in your minds not to meditate beforehand how you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.
