You have never heard his voice, nor seen his form. 38 And you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe him whom he has sent. 39 You search the Scriptures, because in them you think that you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of me. 40 Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. 41 "I do not receive glory from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; it is Moses who accuses you, on whom you set your hope. 46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?" 48.10 Herodias Dances Before Herod. MT 14:3-11 3 For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, 4 because John had said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." 5 And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet. 6 But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod, 7 so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8 Prompted by her mother,she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist." 9 And the king was sorry; but, because of his oaths and his guests, he commanded it to be given to her; 10 so he sent and had John beheaded in prison. 11 And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
