Mason.” Mr. George Sharf, in the _Athenæum_, February 24th, 1894, considers it a happy instinct to make use of the silhouette for producing a more complete portrait. The black shade of the poet preserved at Pembroke College directly inspired the best known portrait of Gray by Basire. MARIA THERESA.
