VALENTINI (1759-1820). Silhouettist and painter. Worked at Turin, Milan, Florence, and Berlin. Originally a bookseller in Frankfort. Practised drawing and silhouetting in his leisure hours. One of his portraits gained sufficient notoriety for him to throw up his book-selling and go to Italy to study. VALLOTON. Obtained silhouette effects by woodcuts and lithographs in two shades.
