The New Testament of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.: The common English version, corrected by the final committee of the American Bible Union.
Bible. New Testament
(39)They answered and said to him: Our father is Abraham. Jesus says
to them: If ye were children of Abraham, ye would do the works of
Abraham. (40)But now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken to you
the truth, which I heard from God. This Abraham did not. (41)Ye do the
works of your father. They said to him: We were not born of
fornication; we have one father, God. (42)Jesus said to them: If God
were your father, ye would love me; for from God I came forth, and am
come; neither have I come of myself, but he sent me. (43)Why do ye not
understand my speech? Because ye can not hear my word. (44)Ye are of
your father the Devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was
a murderer from the beginning, and abides not in the truth, because
truth is not in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own;
because he is a liar, and the father of it. (45)And because I speak
the truth, ye believe me not.
(46)Which of you convicts me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not
believe me? (47)He that is of God hears God's words; ye therefore hear
not, because ye are not of God.
(48)The Jews answered and said to him: Say we not well, that thou art
a Samaritan, and hast a demon? (49)Jesus answered: I have not a demon;
but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me. (50)And I seek not my own
glory; there is one that seeks, and judges. (51)Verily, verily, I say
to you, if any one keep my saying, he shall not see death, forever.
(52)The Jews said to him: Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham
is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If a man keep my saying,
he shall not taste of death, forever. (53)Art thou greater than our
father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom makest
thou thyself? (54)Jesus answered: If I honor myself, my honor is
nothing. It is my Father that honors me, of whom ye say, that he is
your God. (55)And ye know him not; but I know him. And if I say, I
know him not, I shall be a liar like to you. But I know him, and I
keep his word. (56)Abraham, your father, rejoiced to see my day; and
he saw it, and was glad. (57)The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art
not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? (58)Jesus said to
them: Verily, verily, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am. (59)They
took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and
went out of the temple.
IX.
AND passing along, he saw a man blind from his birth. (2)And his
disciples asked him, saying: Master, who sinned, this man or his
parents, that he should be born blind? (3)Jesus answered: Neither this
man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made
manifest in him. (4)I must work the works of him who sent me, while it
is day. Night is coming, when none can work. (5)As long as I am in the
world, I am the light of the world.
