(38)Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, shall they give into your bosom. For with the same measure with which ye mete it shall be measured to you again. (39)And he spoke also a parable to them: Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch? (40)A disciple is not above the teacher; but every one shall be perfected as his teacher. (41)And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (42)How canst thou say to thy brother: Brother, let me cast out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Hypocrite! cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to cast out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. (43)For there is no good tree that bears corrupt fruit, nor corrupt tree that bears good fruit. (44)For every tree is known from its own fruit. For from thorns they do not gather figs, nor from a bramble bush do they harvest grapes. (45)The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and the evil, out of the evil, brings forth that which is evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (46)And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? (47)Every one that comes to me, and hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like. (48)He is like a man building a house, who digged deep, and laid a foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream burst upon that house, and could not shake it; because it was well builded. (49)But he that hears, and does not, is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation; on which the stream burst, and immediately it fell[6:49]; and the ruin of that house was great. VII. WHEN he completed all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capernaum. (2)And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, was sick and about to die. (3)And having heard concerning Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him that he would come and heal his servant. (4)And they, coming to Jesus, besought him earnestly, saying: He is worthy that thou shouldst do this for him; (5)for he loves our nation, and himself built our synagogue.
