Punctuation, hyphenation, and spelling were made consistent when a predominant preference was found in the original book; otherwise they were not changed. Simple typographical errors were corrected; unbalanced quotation marks were remedied when the change was obvious, and otherwise left unbalanced. Illustrations in this eBook have been positioned between paragraphs and outside quotations. Footnotes, originally at the bottoms of the pages that referenced them, have been collected, sequentially renumbered, and placed near the end of the book. The Table of Contents is not well-coordinated with the actual text. The Transcriber has not added missing entries, but has attempted to correct page number discrepancies. Several diagrams use labels with prime marks, but the accompanying explanations do not always include the prime marks.
