The Volumes of Heinemann’s Library of Modern Fiction will not be sold at
a price which, although a bargain for the purchaser, would be totally
unjust to its author. If the price is occasionally high (as much as the
old 6s.), it will be for a story of unusual length or importance, while
if a book is priced on first publication at 2s. only, it will be an
indication that a short novel is offered—though it may be fully as long
and important as many a novelette parading nowadays in the guise of a
6s. novel. Three Shillings will be the price of the average-length
novel.
"False balance is an abomination
Just weight a delight."
MR. HEINEMANN’S New Library of MODERN FICTION will be issued in Volumes
at 2s. net and 3s. net. They will be beautifully printed in large
legible type on clear clean white paper—opaque, yet thin and light.
They will be bound in flexible cloth covers convenient for the hand or
pocket. When, however, a book by its length would be uncomfortably
bulky in one volume, it will be issued in two. This will insure that
each volume is evenly balanced, so that it does not tire the wrist,
causing that imperceptible drooping of the hand which is responsible for
much fatigue and eyesoreness.
