If the price is occasionally high (as much as the old 6s.), it will be for a story of unusual length or importance, while if a book is priced on first publication at 2s. only, it will be an indication that a short novel is offered—though it may be fully as long and important as many a novelette parading nowadays in the guise of a 6s. novel.
