Ibn Majah

Imam Ibn Majah

The compiler of the Sunan Ibn Majah, generally counted the sixth of the canonical Sunni hadith collections.

Life

Ibn Majah (824–887) of Qazvin traveled through Iraq, the Hijaz, Syria, and Egypt collecting hadith, and compiled his Sunan, a topically arranged legal collection. Though it contains some traditions later scholars judged weak, it came to be accepted as the sixth of the canonical Kutub al-Sitta, completing the core corpus of Sunni hadith literature.
