صٓۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ذِي ٱلذِّكۡرِ

ص، قسم ہے نصیحت بھرے قرآن کی

Ṣãd. By the Quran, full of reminders
Uthmani — Hafs
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي عِزَّةࣲ وَشِقَاقࣲ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
بلکہ یہی لوگ، جنہوں نے ماننے سے انکار کیا ہے، سخت تکبر اور ضد میں مبتلا ہیں
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
˹This is the truth,˺ yet the disbelievers are ˹entrenched˺ in arrogance and opposition

كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن قَرۡنࣲ فَنَادَواْ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصࣲ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اِن سے پہلے ہم ایسی کتنی ہی قوموں کو ہلاک کر چکے ہیں (اور جب اُن کی شامت آئی ہے) تو وہ چیخ اٹھے ہیں، مگر وہ وقت بچنے کا نہیں ہوتا

˹Imagine˺ how many peoples We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was too late to escape

وَعَجِبُوٓاْ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡۖ وَقَالَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَٰحِرࣱ كَذَّابٌ

اِن لوگوں کو اس بات پر بڑا تعجب ہوا کہ ایک ڈرانے والا خود اِنہی میں سے آگیا منکرین کہنے لگے کہ "یہ ساحرہے، سخت جھوٹا ہے

Now, the pagans are astonished that a warner has come to them from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, “This is a magician, a total liar

أَجَعَلَ ٱلۡأٓلِهَةَ إِلَٰهࣰ ا وَٰحِدًاۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيۡءٌ عُجَابࣱ

کیا اِس نے سارے خداؤں کی جگہ بس ایک ہی خدا بنا ڈالا؟ یہ تو بڑی عجیب بات ہے

Has he reduced ˹all˺ the gods to One God? Indeed, this is something totally astonishing.”
Uthmani — Hafs
وَٱنطَلَقَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱمۡشُواْ وَٱصۡبِرُواْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِكُمۡۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيۡءࣱ يُرَادُ

اور سرداران قوم یہ کہتے ہوئے نکل گئے کہ "چلو اور ڈٹے رہو اپنے معبودوں کی عبادت پر یہ بات تو کسی اور ہی غرض سے کہی جا رہی ہے

The chiefs among them went forth saying, “Carry on, and stand firm in devotion to your gods. Certainly this is just a scheme ˹for power˺

مَا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي ٱلۡمِلَّةِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا ٱخۡتِلَٰقٌ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
یہ بات ہم نے زمانہ قریب کی ملت میں کسی سے نہیں سنی یہ کچھ نہیں ہے مگر ایک من گھڑت بات

We have never heard of this in the previous faith. This is nothing but a fabrication

أَءُنزِلَ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلذِّكۡرُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِنَاۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِي شَكࣲّ مِّن ذِكۡرِيۚ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِ

کیا ہمارے درمیان بس یہی ایک شخص رہ گیا تھا جس پر اللہ کا ذکر نازل کر دیا گیا؟" اصل بات یہ ہے کہ یہ میرے "ذکر"پر شک کر رہے ہیں، اور یہ ساری باتیں اس لیے کر رہے ہیں کہ انہوں نے میرے عذاب کا مزا چکھا نہیں ہے

Has the Reminder been revealed ˹only˺ to him out of ˹all of˺ us?” In fact, they are ˹only˺ in doubt of My ˹revealed˺ Reminder. In fact, ˹they do so because˺ they have not yet tasted My punishment

أَمۡ عِندَهُمۡ خَزَآئِنُ رَحۡمَةِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡوَهَّابِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
کیا تیرے داتا اور غالب پروردگار کی رحمت کے خزانے اِن کے قبضے میں ہیں؟

Or ˹is it because˺ they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord—the Almighty, the Giver ˹of all bounties˺
Uthmani — Hafs
أَمۡ لَهُم مُّلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَاۖ فَلۡيَرۡتَقُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَسۡبَٰبِ

کیا یہ آسمان و زمین اور ان کے درمیان کی چیزوں کے مالک ہیں؟ اچھا تو یہ عالم اسباب کی بلندیوں پر چڑھ کر دیکھیں
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
Or ˹is it because˺ the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything in between belongs to them? Let them then climb their way ˹to heaven, if their claim is true˺

جُندࣱ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهۡزُومࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ

یہ تو جتھوں میں سے ایک چھوٹا سا جتھا ہے جو اِسی جگہ شکست کھانے والا ہے

This is just another ˹enemy˺ force bound for defeat out there

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ ذُو ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ

اِن سے پہلے نوحؑ کی قوم، اور عاد، اور میخوں والا فرعون

Before them, the people of Noah denied ˹the truth˺, as did ’Âd, Pharaoh of the mighty structures

وَثَمُودُ وَقَوۡمُ لُوطࣲ وَأَصۡحَٰبُ لۡـَٔيۡكَةِۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ

اور ثمود، اور قوم لوط، اور اَیکہ والے جھٹلا چکے ہیں جتھے وہ تھے

Thamûd, the people of Lot, and the residents of the Forest. These were ˹all˺ enemy forces

إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ

ان میں سے ہر ایک نے رسولوں کو جھٹلایا اور میری عقوبت کا فیصلہ اس پر چسپاں ہو کر رہا

Each rejected their messenger, so My punishment was justified

وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا صَيۡحَةࣰ وَٰحِدَةࣰ مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقࣲ

یہ لوگ بھی بس ایک دھماکے کے منتظر ہیں جس کے بعد کوئی دوسرا دھماکا نہ ہوگا

These ˹pagans˺ are awaiting nothing but a single Blast that cannot be stopped

وَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبۡلَ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡحِسَابِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور یہ کہتے ہیں کہ اے ہمارے رب، یوم الحساب سے پہلے ہی ہمارا حصہ ہمیں جلدی سے دے دے

They say ˹mockingly˺, “Our Lord! Hasten for us our share ˹of the punishment˺ before the Day of Reckoning.”

ٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱذۡكُرۡ عَبۡدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا ٱلۡأَيۡدِۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اے نبیؐ، صبر کرو اُن باتوں پر جو یہ لوگ بناتے ہیں، اور اِن کے سامنے ہمارے بندے داؤدؑ کا قصہ بیان کرو جو بڑی قوتوں کا مالک تھا ہر معاملہ میں اللہ کی طرف رجوع کرنے والا تھا

Be patient ˹O Prophet˺ with what they say. And remember Our servant, David, the man of strength. Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺

إِنَّا سَخَّرۡنَا ٱلۡجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحۡنَ بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ وَٱلۡإِشۡرَاقِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
ہم نے پہاڑوں کو اس کے ساتھ مسخر کر رکھا تھا کہ صبح و شام وہ اس کے ساتھ تسبیح کرتے تھے

We truly subjected the mountains to hymn ˹Our praises˺ along with him in the evening and after sunrise

وَٱلطَّيۡرَ مَحۡشُورَةࣰۖ كُلࣱّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابࣱ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
پرندے سمٹ آتے اور سب کے سب اُس کی تسبیح کی طرف متوجہ ہو جاتے تھے

And ˹We subjected˺ the birds, flocking together. All turned to him ˹echoing his hymns˺

وَشَدَدۡنَا مُلۡكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَفَصۡلَ ٱلۡخِطَابِ

ہم نے اس کی سلطنت مضبوط کر دی تھے، اس کو حکمت عطا کی تھے اور فیصلہ کن بات کہنے کی صلاحیت بخشی تھی

We strengthened his kingship, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment

۞وَهَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُاْ ٱلۡخَصۡمِ إِذۡ تَسَوَّرُواْ ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
پھر تمہیں کچھ خبر پہنچی ہے اُن مقدمے والوں کی جو دیوار چڑھ کر اُس کے بالا خانے میں گھس آئے تھے؟

Has the story of the two plaintiffs, who scaled the ˹wall of David’s˺ sanctuary, reached you ˹O Prophet˺

إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنۡهُمۡۖ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفۡۖ خَصۡمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعۡضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تُشۡطِطۡ وَٱهۡدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ

جب وہ داؤدؑ کے پاس پہنچے تو وہ انہیں دیکھ کر گھبرا گیا انہوں نے کہا "ڈریے نہیں، ہم دو فریق مقدمہ ہیں جن میں سے ایک نے دوسرے پر زیادتی کی ہے آپ ہمارے درمیان ٹھیک ٹھیک حق کے ساتھ فیصلہ کر دیجیے، بے انصافی نہ کیجیے اور ہمیں راہ راست بتائیے

When they came into David’s presence, he was startled by them. They said, “Have no fear. ˹We are merely˺ two in a dispute: one of us has wronged the other. So judge between us with truth—do not go beyond ˹it˺—and guide us to the right way

إِنَّ هَٰذَآ أَخِي لَهُۥ تِسۡعࣱ وَتِسۡعُونَ نَعۡجَةࣰ وَلِيَ نَعۡجَةࣱ وَٰحِدَةࣱ فَقَالَ أَكۡفِلۡنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي ٱلۡخِطَابِ

یہ میرا بھائی ہے، اِس کے پاس ننانوے دنبیاں ہیں اور میرے پاس صرف ایک ہی دُنبی ہے اِس نے مجھ سے کہا کہ یہ ایک دنبی بھی میرے حوالے کر دے اور اس نے گفتگو میں مجھے دبا لیا

This is my brother. He has ninety-nine sheep while I have ˹only˺ one. ˹Still˺ he asked me to give it up to him, overwhelming me with ˹his˺ argument.”

قَالَ لَقَدۡ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعۡجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرࣰ ا مِّنَ ٱلۡخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبۡغِي بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَقَلِيلࣱ مَّا هُمۡۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّٰهُ فَٱسۡتَغۡفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّۤ رَاكِعࣰ اۤ وَأَنَابَ۩

داؤدؑ نے جواب دیا: "اِس شخص نے اپنی دنبیوں کے ساتھ تیری دنبی ملا لینے کا مطالبہ کر کے یقیناً تجھ پر ظلم کیا، اور واقعہ یہ ہے کہ مل جل کر ساتھ رہنے والے لوگ اکثر ایک دوسرے پر زیادتیاں کرتے رہتے ہیں، بس وہی لوگ اس سے بچے ہوئے ہیں جو ایمان رکھتے اور عمل صالح کرتے ہیں، اور ایسے لوگ کم ہی ہیں" (یہ بات کہتے کہتے) داؤدؑ سمجھ گیا کہ یہ تو ہم نے دراصل اس کی آزمائش کی ہے، چنانچہ اس نے اپنے رب سے معافی مانگی اور سجدے میں گر گیا اور رجوع کر لیا

David ˹eventually˺ ruled, “He has definitely wronged you in demanding ˹to add˺ your sheep to his. And certainly many partners wrong each other, except those who believe and do good—but how few are they!” Then David realized that We had tested him so he asked for his Lord’s forgiveness, fell down in prostration, and turned ˹to Him in repentance˺

فَغَفَرۡنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلۡفَىٰ وَحُسۡنَ مَـَٔابࣲ

تب ہم نے اس کا وہ قصور معاف کیا اور یقیناً ہمارے ہاں اس کے لیے تقرب کا مقام اور بہتر انجام ہے
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
So We forgave that for him. And he will indeed have ˹a status of˺ closeness to Us and an honourable destination

يَٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَٰكَ خَلِيفَةࣰ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ شَدِيدُۢ بِمَا نَسُواْ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡحِسَابِ

(ہم نے اس سے کہا) "اے داؤدؑ، ہم نے تجھے زمین میں خلیفہ بنایا ہے، لہٰذا تو لوگوں کے درمیان حق کے ساتھ حکومت کر اور خواہش نفس کی پیروی نہ کر کہ وہ تجھے اللہ کی راہ سے بھٹکا دے گی جو لوگ اللہ کی راہ سے بھٹکتے ہیں یقیناً اُن کے لیے سخت سزا ہے کہ وہ یوم الحساب کو بھول گئے

˹We instructed him:˺ “O David! We have surely made you an authority in the land, so judge between people with truth. And do not follow ˹your˺ desires or they will lead you astray from Allah’s Way. Surely those who go astray from Allah’s Way will suffer a severe punishment for neglecting the Day of Reckoning.”

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا بَٰطِلࣰ اۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْۚ فَوَيۡلࣱ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
ہم نے اس آسمان اور زمین کو، اور اس دنیا کو جو ان کے درمیان ہے، فضول پیدا نہیں کر دیا ہے یہ تو اُن لوگوں کا گمان ہے جنہوں نے کفر کیا ہے، اور ایسے کافروں کے لیے بربادی ہے جہنم کی آگ سے

We have not created the heavens and earth and everything in between without purpose—as the disbelievers think. So woe to the disbelievers because of the Fire
Uthmani — Hafs
أَمۡ نَجۡعَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ كَٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ نَجۡعَلُ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ كَٱلۡفُجَّارِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
کیا ہم اُن لوگوں کو جو ایمان لاتے ہیں اور نیک اعمال کرتے ہیں اور اُن کو جو زمین میں فساد کرنے والے ہیں یکساں کر دیں؟ کیا متقیوں کو ہم فاجروں جیسا کر دیں؟

Or should We treat those who believe and do good like those who make mischief throughout the land? Or should We treat the righteous like the wicked
Uthmani — Hafs
كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ إِلَيۡكَ مُبَٰرَكࣱ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓاْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
یہ ایک بڑی برکت والی کتاب ہے جو (اے محمدؐ) ہم نے تمہاری طرف نازل کی ہے تاکہ یہ لوگ اس کی آیات پر غور کریں اور عقل و فکر رکھنے والے اس سے سبق لیں

˹This is˺ a blessed Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful
Uthmani — Hafs
وَوَهَبۡنَا لِدَاوُۥدَ سُلَيۡمَٰنَۚ نِعۡمَ ٱلۡعَبۡدُ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور داؤدؑ کو ہم نے سلیمانؑ (جیسا بیٹا) عطا کیا، بہترین بندہ، کثرت سے اپنے رب کی طرف رجوع کرنے والا

And We blessed David with Solomon—what an excellent servant ˹he was˺! Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺

إِذۡ عُرِضَ عَلَيۡهِ بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ ٱلصَّٰفِنَٰتُ ٱلۡجِيَادُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
قابل ذکر ہے وہ موقع جب شام کے وقت اس کے سامنے خوب سدھے ہوئے تیز رو گھوڑے پیش کیے گئے

˹Remember˺ when the well-trained, swift horses were paraded before him in the evening

فَقَالَ إِنِّيٓ أَحۡبَبۡتُ حُبَّ ٱلۡخَيۡرِ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّي حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتۡ بِٱلۡحِجَابِ

تو اس نے کہا "میں نے اس مال کی محبت اپنے رب کی یاد کی وجہ سے اختیار کی ہے" یہاں تک کہ جب وہ گھوڑے نگاہ سے اوجھل ہو گئے

He then proclaimed, “I am truly in love with ˹these˺ fine things out of remembrance for Allah,” until they went out of sight

رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسۡحَۢا بِٱلسُّوقِ وَٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِ

تو (اس نے حکم دیا کہ) انہیں میرے پاس واپس لاؤ، پھر لگا ان کی پنڈلیوں اور گردنوں پر ہاتھ پھیرنے

˹He ordered,˺ “Bring them back to me!” Then he began to rub down their legs and necks

وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا سُلَيۡمَٰنَ وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا عَلَىٰ كُرۡسِيِّهِۦ جَسَدࣰ ا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ

اور (دیکھو کہ) سلیمانؑ کو بھی ہم نے آزمائش میں ڈالا اور اس کی کرسی پر ایک جسد لا کر ڈال دیا پھر اس نے رجوع کیا

And indeed, We tested Solomon, placing a ˹deformed˺ body on his throne, then he turned ˹to Allah in repentance˺

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَهَبۡ لِي مُلۡكࣰ ا لَّا يَنۢبَغِي لِأَحَدࣲ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِيٓۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡوَهَّابُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور کہا کہ "اے میرے رب، مجھے معاف کر دے اور مجھے وہ بادشاہی دے جو میرے بعد کسی کے لیے سزاوار نہ ہو، بیشک تو ہی اصل داتا ہے

He prayed, “My Lord! Forgive me, and grant me an authority that will never be matched by anyone after me. You are indeed the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.”

فَسَخَّرۡنَا لَهُ ٱلرِّيحَ تَجۡرِي بِأَمۡرِهِۦ رُخَآءً حَيۡثُ أَصَابَ

تب ہم نے اس کے لیے ہوا کو مسخر کر دیا جو اس کے حکم سے نرمی کے ساتھ چلتی تھی جدھر وہ چاہتا تھا

So We subjected to him the wind, blowing gently at his command to wherever he pleased

وَٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّآءࣲ وَغَوَّاصࣲ

اور شیاطین کو مسخر کر دیا، ہر طرح کے معمار اور غوطہ خور

And ˹We subjected to him˺ every builder and diver of the jinn

وَءَاخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَصۡفَادِ

اور دوسرے جو پابند سلاسل تھے

and others bound together in chains

هَٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَٱمۡنُنۡ أَوۡ أَمۡسِكۡ بِغَيۡرِ حِسَابࣲ

(ہم نے اُس سے کہا) "یہ ہماری بخشش ہے، تجھے اختیار ہے جسے چاہے دے اور جس سے چاہے روک لے، کوئی حساب نہیں

˹Allah said,˺ “This is Our gift, so give or withhold ˹as you wish˺, never to be called to account.”

وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلۡفَىٰ وَحُسۡنَ مَـَٔابࣲ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
یقیناً اُس کے لیے ہمارے ہاں تقرب کا مقام اور بہتر انجام ہے

And he will indeed have ˹a status of˺ closeness to Us and an honourable destination

وَٱذۡكُرۡ عَبۡدَنَآ أَيُّوبَ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ بِنُصۡبࣲ وَعَذَابٍ

اور ہمارے بندے ایوبؑ کا ذکر کرو، جب اس نے اپنے رب کو پکارا کہ شیطان نے مجھے سخت تکلیف اور عذاب میں ڈال دیا ہے

And remember Our servant Job, when he cried out to his Lord, “Satan has afflicted me with distress and suffering.”

ٱرۡكُضۡ بِرِجۡلِكَۖ هَٰذَا مُغۡتَسَلُۢ بَارِدࣱ وَشَرَابࣱ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
(ہم نے اُسے حکم دیا) اپنا پاؤں زمین پر مار، یہ ہے ٹھنڈا پانی نہانے کے لیے اور پینے کے لیے

˹We responded,˺ “Stomp your foot: ˹now˺ here is a cool ˹and refreshing˺ spring for washing and drinking.”

وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥٓ أَهۡلَهُۥ وَمِثۡلَهُم مَّعَهُمۡ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِأُوْلِي ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ

ہم نے اُسے اس کے اہل و عیال واپس دیے اور ان کے ساتھ اتنے ہی اور، اپنی طرف سے رحمت کے طور پر، اور عقل و فکر رکھنے والوں کے لیے درس کے طور پر

And We gave him back his family, twice as many, as a mercy from Us and a lesson for people of reason

وَخُذۡ بِيَدِكَ ضِغۡثࣰ ا فَٱضۡرِب بِّهِۦ وَلَا تَحۡنَثۡۗ إِنَّا وَجَدۡنَٰهُ صَابِرࣰ اۚ نِّعۡمَ ٱلۡعَبۡدُ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابࣱ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
(اور ہم نے اس سے کہا) تنکوں کا ایک مٹھا لے اور اُس سے مار دے، اپنی قسم نہ توڑ ہم نے اُسے صابر پایا، بہترین بندہ، اپنے رب کی طرف بہت رجوع کرنے والا

˹And We said to him,˺ “Take in your hand a bundle of grass, and strike ˹your wife˺ with it, and do not break your oath.” We truly found him patient. What an excellent servant ˹he was˺! Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺

وَٱذۡكُرۡ عِبَٰدَنَآ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسۡحَٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوبَ أُوْلِي ٱلۡأَيۡدِي وَٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور ہمارے بندوں، ابراہیمؑ اور اسحاقؑ اور یعقوبؑ کا ذکر کرو بڑی قوت عمل رکھنے والے اور دیدہ ور لوگ تھے

And remember Our servants: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the men of strength and insight

إِنَّآ أَخۡلَصۡنَٰهُم بِخَالِصَةࣲ ذِكۡرَى ٱلدَّارِ

ہم نے اُن کو ایک خالص صفت کی بنا پر برگزیدہ کیا تھا، اور وہ دار آخرت کی یاد تھی

We truly chose them for the honour of proclaiming the Hereafter

وَإِنَّهُمۡ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصۡطَفَيۡنَ ٱلۡأَخۡيَارِ

یقیناً ہمارے ہاں ان کا شمار چنے ہوئے نیک اشخاص میں ہے

And in Our sight they are truly among the chosen and the finest

وَٱذۡكُرۡ إِسۡمَٰعِيلَ وَٱلۡيَسَعَ وَذَا ٱلۡكِفۡلِۖ وَكُلࣱّ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَخۡيَارِ

اور اسماعیلؑ اور الیسع اور ذوالکفلؑ کا ذکر کرو، یہ سب نیک لوگوں میں سے تھے

Also remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Ⱬul-Kifl. All are among the best

هَٰذَا ذِكۡرࣱۚ وَإِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسۡنَ مَـَٔابࣲ

یہ ایک ذکر تھا (اب سنو کہ) متقی لوگوں کے لیے یقیناً بہترین ٹھکانا ہے

This is ˹all˺ a reminder. And the righteous will certainly have an honourable destination

جَنَّٰتِ عَدۡنࣲ مُّفَتَّحَةࣰ لَّهُمُ ٱلۡأَبۡوَٰبُ

ہمیشہ رہنے والی جنتیں جن کے دروازے اُن کے لیے کھلے ہوں گے

the Gardens of Eternity, whose gates will be open for them

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا يَدۡعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَٰكِهَةࣲ كَثِيرَةࣲ وَشَرَابࣲ

ان میں وہ تکیے لگائے بیٹھے ہوں گے، خوب خوب فواکہ اور مشروبات طلب کر رہے ہوں گے

There they will recline, calling for abundant fruit and drink

۞وَعِندَهُمۡ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ أَتۡرَابٌ

اور ان کے پاس شرمیلی ہم سن بیویاں ہوں گی

And with them will be maidens of modest gaze and equal age

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡحِسَابِ

یہ وہ چیزیں ہیں جنہیں حساب کے دن عطا کرنے کا تم سے وعدہ کیا جا رہا ہے

This is what you are promised for the Day of Reckoning

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَرِزۡقُنَا مَا لَهُۥ مِن نَّفَادٍ

یہ ہمارا رزق ہے جو کبھی ختم ہونے والا نہیں

This is indeed Our provision that will never end

هَٰذَاۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّٰغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَـَٔابࣲ

یہ تو ہے متقیوں کا انجام اور سرکشوں کے لیے بدترین ٹھکانا ہے

That is that. And the transgressors will certainly have the worst destination

جَهَنَّمَ يَصۡلَوۡنَهَا فَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمِهَادُ

جہنم جس میں وہ جھلسے جائیں گے، بہت ہی بری قیام گاہ

Hell, where they will burn. What an evil place to rest

هَٰذَا فَلۡيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمࣱ وَغَسَّاقࣱ

یہ ہے اُن کے لیے، پس وہ مزا چکھیں کھولتے ہوئے پانی اور پیپ لہو

Let them then taste this: boiling water and ˹oozing˺ pus

وَءَاخَرُ مِن شَكۡلِهِۦٓ أَزۡوَٰجٌ

and other torments of the same sort

هَٰذَا فَوۡجࣱ مُّقۡتَحِمࣱ مَّعَكُمۡ لَا مَرۡحَبَۢا بِهِمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ صَالُواْ ٱلنَّارِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
(وہ جہنم کی طرف اپنے پیروؤں کو آتے دیکھ کر آپس میں کہیں گے) "یہ ایک لشکر تمہارے پاس گھسا چلا آ رہا ہے، کوئی خوش آمدید اِن کے لیے نہیں ہے، یہ آگ میں جھلسنے والے ہیں

˹The misleaders will say to one another,˺ “Here is a crowd ˹of followers˺ being thrown in with us. They are not welcome, ˹for˺ they ˹too˺ will burn in the Fire.”

قَالُواْ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ لَا مَرۡحَبَۢا بِكُمۡۖ أَنتُمۡ قَدَّمۡتُمُوهُ لَنَاۖ فَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡقَرَارُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
وہ اُن کو جواب دیں گے "نہیں بلکہ تم ہی جھلسے جا رہے ہو، کوئی خیر مقدم تمہارے لیے نہیں تم ہی تو یہ انجام ہمارے آگے لائے ہو، کیسی بری ہے یہ جائے قرار

The followers will respond, “No! You are not welcome! You brought this upon us. What an evil place for settlement!”
Uthmani — Hafs
قَالُواْ رَبَّنَا مَن قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَٰذَا فَزِدۡهُ عَذَابࣰ ا ضِعۡفࣰ ا فِي ٱلنَّارِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
پھر وہ کہیں گے "اے ہمارے رب، جس نے ہمیں اس انجام کو پہنچانے کا بندوبست کیا اُس کو دوزخ کا دوہرا عذاب دے

Adding, “Our Lord! Whoever brought this upon us, double their punishment in the Fire.”

وَقَالُواْ مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالࣰ ا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَشۡرَارِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور وہ آپس میں کہیں گے "کیا بات ہے، ہم اُن لوگوں کو کہیں نہیں دیکھتے جنہیں ہم دنیا میں برا سمجھتے تھے؟

The tyrants will ask ˹one another˺, “But why do we not see those we considered to be lowly
Uthmani — Hafs
أَتَّخَذۡنَٰهُمۡ سِخۡرِيًّا أَمۡ زَاغَتۡ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
ہم نے یونہی ان کا مذاق بنا لیا تھا، یا وہ کہیں نظروں سے اوجھل ہیں؟
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
Were we wrong in mocking them ˹in the world˺? Or do our eyes ˹just˺ fail to see them ˹in the Fire˺?”
Uthmani — Hafs
إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقࣱّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهۡلِ ٱلنَّارِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
بے شک یہ بات سچی ہے، اہل دوزخ میں یہی کچھ جھگڑے ہونے والے ہیں
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
This dispute between the residents of the Fire will certainly come to pass

قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ مُنذِرࣱۖ وَمَا مِنۡ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡوَٰحِدُ ٱلۡقَهَّارُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
(اے نبیؐ) اِن سے کہو، "میں تو بس خبردار کر دینے والا ہوں کوئی حقیقی معبود نہیں مگر اللہ، جو یکتا ہے، سب پر غالب

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I am only a warner. And there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah—the One, the Supreme
Uthmani — Hafs
رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡغَفَّٰرُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
آسمانوں اور زمین کا مالک اور اُن ساری چیزوں کا مالک جو ان کے درمیان ہیں، زبردست اور درگزر کرنے والا

˹He is the˺ Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between—the Almighty, Most Forgiving.”

قُلۡ هُوَ نَبَؤٌاْ عَظِيمٌ

اِن سے کہو "یہ ایک بڑی خبر ہے

Say, “This ˹Quran˺ is momentous news

أَنتُمۡ عَنۡهُ مُعۡرِضُونَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
جس کو سن کر تم منہ پھیرتے ہو

from which you ˹pagans˺ are turning away.”

مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنۡ عِلۡمِۭ بِٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰٓ إِذۡ يَخۡتَصِمُونَ

(ان سے کہو) "مجھے اُس وقت کی کوئی خبر نہ تھی جب ملاء اعلیٰ میں جھگڑا ہو رہا تھا

˹And say,˺ “I had no knowledge of the highest assembly ˹in heaven˺ when they differed ˹concerning Adam˺

إِن يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيَّ إِلَّآ أَنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرࣱ مُّبِينٌ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
مجھ کو تو وحی کے ذریعہ سے یہ باتیں صرف اس لیے بتائی جاتی ہیں کہ میں کھلا کھلا خبردار کرنے والا ہوں

What is revealed to me is that I am only sent with a clear warning.”

إِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّي خَٰلِقُۢ بَشَرࣰ ا مِّن طِينࣲ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
جب تیرے رب نے فرشتوں سے کہا "میں مٹی سے ایک بشر بنانے والا ہوں

˹Remember, O Prophet˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being from clay
Uthmani — Hafs
فَإِذَا سَوَّيۡتُهُۥ وَنَفَخۡتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُواْ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
پھر جب میں اسے پوری طرح بنا دوں اور اس میں اپنی روح پھونک دوں تو تم اس کے آگے سجدے میں گر جاؤ

So when I have fashioned him and had a spirit of My Own ˹creation˺ breathed into him, fall down in prostration to him.”

فَسَجَدَ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعُونَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اس حکم کے مطابق فرشتے سب کے سب سجدے میں گر گئے

So the angels prostrated all together—

إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

مگر ابلیس نے اپنی بڑائی کا گھمنڈ کیا اور وہ کافروں میں سے ہو گیا

but not Iblîs, who acted arrogantly, becoming unfaithful

قَالَ يَٰٓإِبۡلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسۡجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقۡتُ بِيَدَيَّۖ أَسۡتَكۡبَرۡتَ أَمۡ كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَالِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
رب نے فرمایا "اے ابلیس، تجھے کیا چیز اُس کو سجدہ کرنے سے مانع ہوئی جسے میں نے اپنے دونوں ہاتھوں سے بنایا ہے؟ تو بڑا بن رہا ہے یا تو ہے ہی کچھ اونچے درجے کی ہستیوں میں سے؟

Allah asked, “O Iblîs! What prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My Own Hands? Did you ˹just˺ become proud? Or have you always been arrogant?”
Uthmani — Hafs
قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيۡرࣱ مِّنۡهُ خَلَقۡتَنِي مِن نَّارࣲ وَخَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن طِينࣲ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اُس نے جواب دیا "میں اُس سے بہتر ہوں، آپ نے مجھ کو آگ سے پیدا کیا ہے اور اس کو مٹی سے

He replied, “I am better than he is: You created me from fire and him from clay.”
Uthmani — Hafs
قَالَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمࣱ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
فرمایا "اچھا تو یہاں سے نکل جا، تو مردود ہے
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
Allah commanded, “Then get out of Paradise, for you are truly cursed
Uthmani — Hafs
وَإِنَّ عَلَيۡكَ لَعۡنَتِيٓ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور تیرے اوپر یوم الجزاء تک میری لعنت ہے
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
And surely upon you is My condemnation until the Day of Judgment.”
Uthmani — Hafs
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرۡنِيٓ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
وہ بولا "ا ے میرے رب، یہ بات ہے تو پھر مجھے اُس وقت تک کے لیے مہلت دے دے جب یہ لوگ دوبارہ اٹھائے جائیں گے

Satan appealed, “My Lord! Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection.”
Uthmani — Hafs
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنظَرِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
فرمایا، "اچھا، تجھے اُس روز تک کی مہلت ہے

Allah said, “You will be delayed
Uthmani — Hafs
إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡوَقۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡلُومِ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
جس کا وقت مجھے معلوم ہے
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
until the appointed Day.”
Uthmani — Hafs
قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغۡوِيَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اس نے کہا "تیری عزت کی قسم، میں اِن سب لوگو ں کو بہکا کر رہوں گا

Satan said, “By Your Glory! I will certainly mislead them all
Uthmani — Hafs
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنۡهُمُ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
بجز تیرے اُن بندوں کے جنہیں تو نے خالص کر لیا ہے

except Your chosen servants among them.”

قَالَ فَٱلۡحَقُّ وَٱلۡحَقَّ أَقُولُ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
فرمایا "تو حق یہ ہے، اور میں حق ہی کہا کرتا ہوں

Allah concluded, “The truth is—and I ˹only˺ say the truth—
Uthmani — Hafs
لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
کہ میں جہنم کو تجھ سے اور اُن سب لوگوں سے بھر دوں گا جو اِن انسانوں میں سے تیری پیروی کریں گے
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
I will surely fill up Hell with you and whoever follows you from among them, all together.”
Uthmani — Hafs
قُلۡ مَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرࣲ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلۡمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
(اے نبیؐ) اِن سے کہہ دو کہ میں اس تبلیغ پر تم سے کوئی اجر نہیں مانگتا، اور نہ میں بناوٹی لوگوں میں سے ہوں
The Clear Quran — Mustafa Khattab
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I do not ask you for any reward for this ˹Quran˺, nor do I pretend to be someone I am not

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرࣱ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
یہ تو ایک نصیحت ہے تمام جہان والوں کے لیے

It is only a reminder to the whole world

وَلَتَعۡلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُۥ بَعۡدَ حِينِۭ
Tafhim al-Quran — Maududi
اور تھوڑی مدت ہی گزرے گی کہ تمہیں اس کا حال خود معلوم ہو جائے گا

And you will certainly know its truth before long.”
