The Chamber, and a Drawn Sword
Medina. The twelfth day of Rabi al-Awwal, in the eleventh year after the Hijra. Inside the small chamber of his wife Aisha, joined to the wall of the mosque, the Prophet Muhammad has just died after days of fever. Outside, in the courtyard and the narrow lanes, one word begins to move from mouth to mouth: he is gone.
