230. Make thee an ark of gopher-wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of; the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shall thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. And behold I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark; thou and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, _two of every sort_ shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee: they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind; two of every sort shall come unto thee to keep them alive. _And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten_, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail, and the _mountains_ were covered. Gen. vii. 17 to 20. 232. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth by the space of _three years and six months_. James v. 17. 233. And the Lord God formed man _of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life_; and man became _a living soul_. Gen. ii. 7. 234. And the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. And the _rib_ which the Lord God had taken from man, _made he a woman_, and brought her unto the man. Gen. ii. 21, 2. 235. Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven: and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
