253. For I am he that _liveth and was dead;_ and behold I am alive for ever more. Amen; _and have the keys of hell and of death_. Rev, i. 18.. 254. But Mary stood without at the sepulchre, weeping; and as she wept she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre. _And seeth two angels in white, sitting_ the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. _And they say unto her_, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, _and saw Jesus standing_, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? she, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou hast borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary, she turned herself, and said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say Master. John xx, 11 to 16. 255. But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore saith unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. _And after eight days_ again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them; _then came Jesus: (the door being shut) and stood in the midst,_ and said; Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, _and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side_; and be not faithless but believing. John xx. 24 to 27. 356. Jesus saith unto them, _Come and dine_. And none of his disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then _cometh and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise_. This now was the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, _after that he was risen from the dead_. John xxi. 12 to 14. 257. And when he had spoken these things while they beheld, _he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight_. And while they looked steadily toward heaven, as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel: Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts i. 9 to 11. 258. _Then the Spirit took me up_, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the Lord from his place. _So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away_, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.
