SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with tips within the blossom, and two-horned at the base. Shaft
without. Blossom globular, flesh-coloured, umbelled, and nodding.
Footstalks very long. Leaves by threes, spathula-shaped, spreading, and
glandularly hairy.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM shrubby, a foot and a half high. The large and small branches are
numerous, hairy, and between erect and spreading.
LEAVES by threes, spathula-shaped, keeled beneath, flat on the upper
surface. The margins are glandular, and rolled back.
FLOWERS terminate the small branches in umbels, nodding. Footstalks very
long, and glandularly hairy.
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved; leaflets spathula-shaped, keeled, and
glandular.
BLOSSOM globular, flesh-coloured. The segments of the border are obtuse,
and turned inwards.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads; tips two-horned, within the blossom.
POINTAL. Seed-vessel turban-shaped, furrowed, and hairy. Shaft
thread-shaped, without the blossom. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from August till November.

CHARACTER SPECIFICUS.
ERICA, antheris muticis inclusis, corollis glutinosissimis,
verticillatis, horizontalibus, pallide viridibus, semi-uncialibus, et
costatis. Folia sena.
DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS erectus, bipedalis. Rami simplices, longi, verticillati.
FOLIA sena, linearia acuminata, glabra, læviter sulcata, patentia.
FLORES sub apicibus ramorum conferti, verticillato-horizontales.
Pedunculi breves, bracteis tribus calyci adpressis.
CALYX. Perianthium tetraphyllum, foliolis lanceolatis, viscosis,
adpressis.
COROLLA cylindrica, semi-uncialis, pallide viridis, glutinosissima,
nitida et costata, oris laciniis parum reflexis.
STAMINA. Filamenta octo, capillaria; antheræ muticæ, inclusæ.
PISTILLUM. Germen tiaræforme, sulcatum et superne sericeum. Stylus
filiformis. Stigma tetragonum.
Habitat ad Caput Bonæ Spei.
Floret a mense Novembri ad Aprilem.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardless tips within the blossoms, which are extremely
clammy, in whorls, horizontal, and of a pale green, half an inch long,
and ribbed. Leaves by sixes.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM upright, two feet high. The branches are simple, long, and whorled.
LEAVES grow by sixes, are linear-pointed and smooth, slightly furrowed,
and spreading.
