SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with crested tips within the blossom, blossoms pitcher-shaped
headed terminal and lateral, leaves in threes and ciliated.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM shrubby, branched; the branches obscurely whorled, slender,
flexuose, with a rusty brown bark.
LEAVES in threes, upright, broad-linear, blunt, near three lines long,
minutely ciliated, and furrowed beneath.
FLOWERS small, chiefly in threes, in terminal and lateral bunches.
EMPALEMENT double, coloured, pressed to the blossom, with the leaflets
wedge-egg-shaped, and imbricated on the blossom.
BLOSSOM pitcher-shaped, upwards rose-coloured, with slightly spreading
segments.
CHIVES eight flat threads; tips bearded, without the blossom.
POINTAL. Germen turban-shaped; shaft thread-shaped; summit
four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from the month of September till February.

ERICA, antheris aristatis, inclusis: foliis ternis, glabris, linearibus,
obtusis; corollis campanulatis, albis, tenuibus; ramis numerosis,
gracilibus.
DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS pedalis et ultra; ramis et ramulis filiformibus, numerosis.
FOLIA terna, adscendentia, glabra, linearia, obtusa; petiolis brevibus.
FLORES in ramos umbellis parvis irregularibus; pedunculis incarnatis, ad
basin bracteis tribus parvis instructis.
CALYX tetraphyllus: foliolis lanceolatis, serrulatis, adpressis.
COROLLA campanulata, alba, tenuis; oris laciniis æqualibus, patentibus.
STAMINA. Filamenta octo capillaria. Antheræ aristatæ, inclusæ.
PISTILLUM. Germen tiaræforme, purpureum, sulcatum, ad basin
nectariferum. Stylus filiformis. Stigma concavum.
Habitat ad Caput Bonæ Spei.
Floret a mense Martii in Julium.
