At midnight he was called away
From his employment on the sea,—
Altho’ his warning was but short,
We hope he’s reached the heavenly port.

No Supervisor’s check he fears,
Now, no commissioner obeys;
He’s free from cares, entreaties, tears,
And all the heavenly orb surveys.

To the Memory of Robert Dyer, who was drowned,
Aged 19.
Ah! cruel death that would not spare
A loving husband was so dear;
This world he left, and me behind,
The world to try, and friends to find.
