By that time all animals that could be used for transport were requisitioned for the army and shipments either abroad or to other parts of Turkey were impossible. Consequently, the export trade to foreign countries from this Vilayet in 1914 amounted to only $137,100, as compared with $494,390 in 1913, and the value of shipments to other Provinces of Turkey to $139,600, as compared with $599,740 in 1913--a total of only $276,700 in 1914, whereas the total exports in 1913 amounted to $1,094,130.
