Jesus entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own
city. And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy,
lying on a bed. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said unto the sick
of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins be forgiven thee.
And behold, certain of the Scribes said within themselves, This
man blasphemeth. And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Wherefore
think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, Thy
sins be forgiven thee? or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye
may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,
(then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed,
and go unto thine house. And he arose, and departed to his house.
But when the multitude saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God,
who had given such power unto men.
THE TWENTIETH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
THE COLLECT.
O almighty and most merciful God, of thy bountiful goodness keep
us, we beseech thee, from all things that may hurt us; that we,
being ready both in body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish those
things that thou wouldest have done; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. _Amen_.
THE EPISTLE. Ephes. v. 15.
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not
unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not
drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs;
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks
always for all things unto God and the Father, in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ; submitting yourselves one to another in the
fear of God.
