I had the good fortune to be given two folders that give fascinating details of the activities of the Confederate Veterans and the Daughters of the Confederacy in years past. One was the program of the ceremony held at the unveiling of the monument on Thursday, May 28, 1908, and the committees responsible for its erection. The money to pay for the statue had been raised by the Daughters of the Confederacy.
