1 [19:1]AND when Jesus had finished these words he departed from Galilee, and came into the bounds of Judea beyond the Jordan; [19:2]and great multitudes followed him, and he cured them there. [19:3]And the Pharisees came to him to try him, and said, Is it lawful [for a man] to put away his wife for every cause? [19:4]And he answered and said, Have you not read that the Creator at the beginning made them male and female? [19:5]and he said, On this account shall a man leave his father and mother, and be joined to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. [19:6]So that they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has yoked together, let not man separate. 2 [19:7]They said to him, Why then did Moses command us to give a bill of divorcement, and put her away? [19:8]He said to them, Moses, on account of your hardness of heart, allowed you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it was not so. [19:9]And I tell you, that whoever puts away his wife, except for adultery, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her that is put away, commits adultery. 3 [19:10]The disciples said to him, If the case of a man is thus with his wife, it is not expedient to marry. [19:11]And he said to them, All do not receive this word, but those to whom it is given. [19:12]For there are eunuchs from birth, who were born so from their mother; and there are eunuchs who are made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He that is able to receive [this doctrine] let him receive it. 4 [19:13]Then little children were brought to him that he should put his hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. [19:14]But Jesus said, Suffer the little children to come to me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. [19:15]And he put his hands on them and departed thence. 5 [19:16]And behold one came and said to him, Teacher, what good [work] shall I do that I may have eternal life? [19:17]And he said to him, Why do you ask me of the good? one is the good. But if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments. [19:18]He said to him, What? And Jesus said, this; You shall not kill; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not testify falsely; [19:19]Honor your father and mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. [19:20]The young man said to him, All these have I kept; what do I lack yet? [19:21]Jesus said to him, If you will be perfect, go and sell your property, and give to the poor, and you shall have a treasure in heaven; and come and follow me. [19:22]And when the young man heard [this] he went away sad, for he had great possessions.
