NOTES.--The senior of several regiments of Dragoons restored in 1715, which had been disbanded after Utrecht. Raised in the southern counties, it served uninterruptedly in Ireland for eighty-six years to 1803, and in its title received special favour at the hands of Queen Adelaide in 1830. It gained distinction for service during the Indian Mutiny, and is the only British cavalry regiment with "Charasiah," "Kabul, 1879," and "Kandahar, 1880" on its Colours.
