Il leur fait rafraischir le serment solennel qu'ils ont fait.'[466] The English account is put together from foreign sources to a great extent: 'They are carryed out of the house, either by the Window, Door, or Chimney, mounted on their Imps.... In Scotland, France, and Belgium, another rite was also in vogue, that of kissing the Devil on any part of his person that he might direct. At Como and Brescia the witches, 'when they paid reverence to the presiding demon, bent themselves backwards, lifting a foot in the air forwards.'[468] Remigius, writing of the Lorraine witches in 1589, says:
