Apart from minor normalisation of punctuation, the text is presented
as printed in the original, including inconsistent hyphenation
(cross-examined/cross examined, left-hand/left hand, right-hand/right
hand), inconsistent and period spelling (Perrot/Perrott, Jekyl/Jekyll,
anti-room, inadmissable, surprized) and inconsistent capitalisation
in headings. The original uses the long s (ſ) only in the prefatory
pages, thereafter reverting to modern usage.
