سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ أَخَذْنَ مِنْكُمْ مِيثاقاً غَلِيظاً قَالَ الْمِيثَاقُ هِيَ الْكَلِمَةُ الَّتِي عُقِدَ بِهَا النِّكَاحُ وَ أَمَّا قَوْلُهُ غَلِيظاً فَهُوَ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ يُفْضِيهِ إِلَى امْرَأَتِهِ .
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboub, from Abu Ayoub, from Bureyd Al Ijaly who said, ‘I asked Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> about the Words of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:4#h21"><a href="/books/quran:4#h21">[4:21]</a></a> and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?</span> He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘The covenant, it is the speech which he binds the marriage tie with, and as for His<sup>azwj</sup> Word <span class="ibTxt">solemn</span>, so it is the (thick) water of the man which he empties into his wife’.
