قُلْتُ لَهُ مَا تَقُولُ فِي رَجُلٍ قَالَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ أَنْتِ عَلَيَّ حَرَامٌ فَإِنَّا نُرْوَى بِالْعِرَاقِ أَنَّ عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلام ) جَعَلَهَا ثَلَاثاً فَقَالَ كَذَبُوا لَمْ يَجْعَلْهَا طَلَاقاً وَ لَوْ كَانَ لِي عَلَيْهِ سُلْطَانٌ لَأَوْجَعْتُ رَأْسَهُ ثُمَّ أَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَحَلَّهَا لَكَ فَمَا ذَا حَرَّمَهَا عَلَيْكَ مَا زِدْتَ عَلَى أَنْ كَذَبْتَ فَقُلْتَ لِشَيْءٍ أَحَلَّهُ اللَّهُ لَكَ إِنَّهُ حَرَامٌ .
Translation
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Umar Bin Azina, from Zurara, (It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I said to him<sup>asws</sup>, ‘What are you<sup>asws</sup> saying regarding a man who says to his wife, ‘You are prohibited unto me’, for we are reporting at Al-Iraq that Ali<sup>asws</sup> made it to be as three (divorces)?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘They are lying! He<sup>asws</sup> did not make it to be as a divorce, and if there was an authority for me<sup>asws</sup> over him, I<sup>asws</sup> would pain his head, then I<sup>asws</sup> would be saying that Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Mighty and Majestic has Made her to be Permissible for you, so what is that which prohibits her unto you? It would not be any more a life if you were to say for something which Allah<sup>azwj</sup> has Permitted it for you, that it is prohibited’.
