سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ تَفْسِيرِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ ما سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ. قالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ قَالَ عَنَى بِهَا لَمْ نَكُ مِنْ أَتْبَاعِ الْأَئِمَّةِ الَّذِينَ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى فِيهِمْ وَ السَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ. أُولئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ أَ مَا تَرَى النَّاسَ يُسَمُّونَ الَّذِي يَلِي السَّابِقَ فِي الْحَلْبَةِ مُصَلِّي فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي عَنَى حَيْثُ قَالَ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ لَمْ نَكُ مِنْ أَتْبَاعِ السَّابِقِينَ .

علی بن محمد، سهل بن زیاد سے، وہ اسماعیل بن میران سے، وہ حسن قمی سے، وہ ادریس بن عبداللہ سے، وہ ابو عبداللہ علیہ السلام سے، جنہوں نے فرمایا: میں نے ان سے اس آیت کی تفسیر کے بارے میں پوچھا: تمہیں سقر میں کس چیز نے داخل کیا؟ وہ کہیں گے: ہم musallin میں سے نہ تھے۔ انہوں نے علیہ السلام فرمایا: اس سے مراد یہ ہے: ہم ائمہ کے پیروکاروں میں سے نہ تھے، ان کے بارے میں جن کے متعلق اللہ، بابرکت و بلند، نے فرمایا: اور سبقت لے جانے والے ہی سبقت لے جانے والے ہیں؛ یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جو مقرب ہیں۔ کیا تم نہیں دیکھتے کہ لوگ دوڑ میں سبقت لے جانے والے کے بعد آنے والے کو musalli کہتے ہیں؟ پس یہی مراد تھی جہاں اس نے فرمایا: ہم musallin میں سے نہ تھے، یعنی: ہم سبقت لے جانے والوں کے پیروکاروں میں سے نہ تھے۔
Translation
Ali Bin Muhammad, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ismail Bin Mihran, from Al Hassan Al Qummy, from Idrees Bin Abdullah, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>, said, ‘I asked him<sup>asws</sup> about the interpretation of this Verse <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:74#h42"><a href="/books/quran:74#h42">[74:42]</a></a> What has brought you into Hell? <a href="/#/books/quran:74#h43"><a href="/books/quran:74#h43">[74:43]</a></a> They shall say: We were not of those who Prayed (Musalleen)</span>. He<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘It Means by it, ‘We were not the ones who followed the Imams<sup>asws</sup>, those for whom Allah<sup>azwj</sup> Blessed and High Said regarding them <span class="ibTxt"><a href="/#/books/quran:56#h10"><a href="/books/quran:56#h10">[56:10]</a></a> And the foremost are the foremost <a href="/#/books/quran:56#h11"><a href="/books/quran:56#h11">[56:11]</a></a> These are the ones of proximity</span>. Have you not seen the people naming the one who follows the preceding one in the race as ‘Musally’? So that is what they mean when they would be saying, ‘We were not of the ‘<span class="iTxt">Musalleen</span>’, i.e., we were not the ones who followed the foremost’.
