قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ الدَّجَاجَةَ تَكُونُ فِي الْمَنْزِلِ وَ لَيْسَ مَعَهَا دِيكٌ تَعْتَلِفُ مِنَ الْكُنَاسَةِ وَ غَيْرِهَا وَ تَبِيضُ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَرْكَبَهَا الدِّيكُ فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي أَكْلِ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْضِ فَقَالَ لِي إِنَّ الْبَيْضَ إِذَا كَانَ مِمَّا يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهُ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِ وَ بِأَكْلِهِ وَ هُوَ حَلَالٌ.
Translation
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Musa, from Yaqoub Bin Yazeed, from Ibn Fazzal, from one of our companions, from Ibn Abu Yafour who said, ‘I said to Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> that the chicken happens to be in the house and there is no rooster with her. She feeds upon the sweepings and other such, and she lays an egg from other than going near the rooster. So what are you<sup>asws</sup> saying regarding eating that egg?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said to me: ‘The egg when it was from what its flesh can be eaten, so there is no problem with it and with eating it, and it is Permissible’.
