كُنَّا نَمْشِي مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ هُوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُعَزِّيَ ذَا قَرَابَةٍ لَهُ بِمَوْلُودٍ لَهُ فَانْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ نَعْلِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَتَنَاوَلَ نَعْلَهُ مِنْ رِجْلِهِ ثُمَّ مَشَى حَافِياً فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنُ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ فَخَلَعَ نَعْلَ نَفْسِهِ مِنْ رِجْلِهِ وَ خَلَعَ الشِّسْعَ مِنْهَا وَ نَاوَلَهُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ كَهَيْئَةِ الْمُغْضَبِ ثُمَّ أَبَى أَنْ يَقْبَلَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَا إِنَّ صَاحِبَ الْمُصِيبَةِ أَوْلَى بِالصَّبْرِ عَلَيْهَا فَمَشَى حَافِياً حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي أَتَاهُ لِيُعَزِّيَهُ .
Translation
A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboub, from Yaqoub Al Sarraj who said, ‘We were walking along with Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> and he<sup>asws</sup> wanted to condole his<sup>asws</sup> relatives due to there being death of a child, so the strap of a sandal of Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> snapped. So he<sup>asws</sup> grabbed his<sup>asws</sup> sandal from his<sup>asws</sup> feet, then walk bare-footed. So Ibn Abu Yafour looked at him<sup>asws</sup>, so he took off his own sandal from his feet, and untied the strap from it and gave it to Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup>. So he<sup>asws</sup> turned away from it as if he<sup>asws</sup> was not happy, then refused to accept it, then said: ‘Indeed! The one in the difficulties is the foremost with the patience over it’. So he<sup>asws</sup> walked bare-footed until he<sup>asws</sup> came up to a man whom he gave his<sup>asws</sup> condolences’.
