John Shaqi

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ أُقِيمَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ وَ قَدْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ عُمَرُ أَنْ يُضْرَبَ فَلَمْ يَتَقَدَّمْ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ يَضْرِبُهُ حَتَّى قَامَ عَلِيٌّ ( عليه السلام ) بِنِسْعَةٍ مَثْنِيَّةٍ فَضَرَبَهُ بِهَا أَرْبَعِينَ .


Translation

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, form Ibn Fazaal, from Ibn Bukeyr, from Zurara who said, ‘I heard Abu Ja’far<sup>asws</sup> saying: ‘Ubeydullah Bin Umar was made to stand, and he had drunk the wine. So Umar instructd that he should be whipped. But no one proceeded anyone to whip him until Ali<sup>asws</sup> arose with a doubled belt, so he<sup>asws</sup> whipped him with it’.
