حَدَّثَنِي بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا قَالَ مَرَرْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي يَوْمٍ بَارِدٍ وَ إِذَا رَجُلٌ يُضْرَبُ بِالسَّوْطِ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ فِي مِثْلِ هَذَا الْوَقْتِ يُضْرَبُ قُلْتُ لَهُ وَ لِلضَّرْبِ حَدٌّ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْبَرْدِ ضُرِبَ فِي حَرِّ النَّهَارِ وَ إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْحَرِّ ضُرِبَ فِي بَرْدِ النَّهَارِ .
Translation
Al Husayn Bin Muhammad, from Moala Bin Muhammad, from Abu Dawood Al Mustaraq who said, ‘One of our companions narrated to me saying, ‘I passed by Al-Medina with Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> during a cold night, and there was a man being whipped with the lash. So Abu Abdullah<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Glory be to Allah<sup>azwj</sup>! It is during a time similar to this that they are whipping him?’ I said to him<sup>asws</sup>, ‘And is there for the whipping, a Penalty (<span class="iTxt">Hadd</span>)?’ He <sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Yes. Whenever it was during the cold (season), whipping should be during the heat of the day; and whenever it was during the hot (season), whipping should be during the cold part of the day’.
