علی بن محمد، حسن بن عیسی العُریدی سے، ابو محمد سے، انہوں نے کہا: جب ابو محمد (عليه السلام) وفات پا گئے تو اہلِ مصر میں سے ایک شخص مال لے کر مکہ آیا جو ناحیہ کے لیے تھا۔ اس پر اختلاف ہو گیا، چنانچہ بعض لوگوں نے کہا: “ابو محمد (عليه السلام) بغیر کسی جانشین کے وفات پا گئے، اور جانشین جعفر ہے,” جبکہ بعض نے کہا: “ابو محمد ایک جانشین چھوڑ کر وفات پا گئے۔” پس اس نے ایک شخص بھیجا جس کی کنیت ابو طالب تھی۔ وہ ایک خط لے کر العسکر پہنچا، پھر جعفر کے پاس گیا اور اس سے ایک دلیل پوچھی، تو اس نے کہا: “اس وقت یہ ممکن نہیں۔” پھر وہ دروازے پر گیا اور ہمارے ساتھیوں تک خط پہنچایا، تو اس کے پاس یہ جواب آیا: “اللہ تمہیں تمہارے ساتھی کے بارے میں جزا دے، کیونکہ وہ وفات پا چکا ہے۔ اس نے اپنے پاس موجود مال ایک قابلِ اعتماد شخص کے سپرد کیا تھا تاکہ وہ اس کے بارے میں حسبِ ضرورت عمل کرے، اور اس کے خط کا جواب دے دیا گیا ہے۔”

Translation

Ali Bin Muhammad, from Al Hassan Bin Isa Al Ureyz Abu Muhammad who said, ‘When Abu Muhammad^asws (11^th Imam^asws) passed away, a man from the people of Egypt came over with some wealth to Makkah for the hand (of the 12^th Imam^asws), and there was a differing over it. So some of the people said, ‘Abu Muhammad^asws has passed away from without a replacement (successor^asws), and the replacement is Ja’far’; and some of them said, ‘Abu Muhammad^asws passed away and he^asws does have a successor^asws’. So a man teknonymed as Abu Talib was sent, and he arrived at Al Askar, and with him was a letter. So he came to Ja’far and asked him of the proof, and he said, ‘I am not available for this time’. So he came to the door and gave the letter to its owner. So there came out to him (a note): ‘May Allah^azwj Recompense you regarding your companion, for he has died, and he bequeathed with the wealth which was with him to a reliable one to work with regards to it with what he deems proper, and I^asws have (already) answered his letter’.
