John Shaqi

كَانَ النَّاسُ أَهْلَ رِدَّةٍ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ (صلى الله عليه وآله) إِلَّا ثَلَاثَةً فَقُلْتُ وَ مَنِ الثَّلَاثَةُ فَقَالَ الْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ وَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ الْغِفَارِيُّ وَ سَلْمَانُ الْفَارِسِيُّ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ عَرَفَ أُنَاسٌ بَعْدَ يَسِيرٍ وَ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ دَارَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الرَّحَى وَ أَبَوْا أَنْ يُبَايِعُوا حَتَّى جَاءُوا بِأَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عليه السلام) مُكْرَهاً فَبَايَعَ وَ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَ ما مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ أَ فَإِنْ ماتَ أَوْ قُتِلَ انْقَلَبْتُمْ عَلى أَعْقابِكُمْ وَ مَنْ يَنْقَلِبْ عَلى عَقِبَيْهِ فَلَنْ يَضُرَّ اللَّهَ شَيْئاً وَ سَيَجْزِي اللَّهُ الشَّاكِرِينَ.


Translation

<a id="_Toc492473470">H 14789</a> – Hanaan, from his father, who has said: <span class="first-chapter-phrase"><span class="first-in-chapter character-a">A</span>bu Ja’far</span><sup>asws</sup> has said: ‘The people turned apostate after the Prophet<sup>saww</sup> except for three’. So I said, ‘And which three?’ So he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘Al-Miqdad Bin Al-Aswad<sup>ar</sup>, and Abu Dharr Al-Ghaffari<sup>ar</sup>, and Salman Al-Farsy<sup>ar</sup>, may the Mercy of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> and His<sup>azwj</sup> Blessing be upon them<sup>ar</sup>. Then the people realised after a while’. And he<sup>asws</sup> said: ‘They<sup>ar</sup> are the ones upon whom the grinding stone turned, but they still refused to pledge their<sup>ar</sup> allegiances until they went to Amir-ul-Momineen<sup>asws</sup>, so they pledged their<sup>ar</sup> allegiances under threat, and that is the Statement of Allah<sup>azwj</sup> the High: <span class="ibTxt">“<a href="/#/books/quran:3#h144"><a href="/books/quran:3#h144">[3:144]</a></a> And Muhammad is no more than a messenger; the messengers have already passed away before him; if then he dies or is killed will you turn back upon your heels? And whoever turns back upon his heels, he will by no means do harm to Allah in the least and Allah will reward the grateful”</span>.’
